June-July Newsletter

A Word from the Pastor

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy: You are to labor six days and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. You must not do any work—you, your son or daughter, your male or female servant, your livestock, or the resident alien who is within your city gates. For the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days; then he rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and declared it holy.” (Exodus 20:8-11 CSB)

Sometimes I share a message that I need to hear first. So, if you get something out of this, great. But sometimes I need to be reminded to rest. The human body was not meant to run infinitely; it needs to recharge at least as much as all of our electronic devices need to recharge. Our rest—our Sabbath—is built right into the creation: one day out of every seven. But the Sabbath is more than just physical resting and recuperating. It is preparation for eternal life. If we practice “resting” in this life, as a Sabbath, then we are beginning to participate in the eternal life that is promised in Jesus. There is a Sabbath rest that remains for all of God’s people, in the age to come. So let us make every effort to enter into that rest now, so that we will be preparing ourselves for the world to come. (See Hebrews 4:9-11.)

Pioneer Bible Translators

From the Smiths’ newsletter:

The time came and went without any of us even noticing. We’ve passed six months living—and thriving—here in the Nile region of Africa!

To be honest, we’re quite proud to have reached this point. Not that we didn’t expect to do well, but I think we’ve surprised ourselves. We continue to learn and grow. It’s impossible to describe how this move has changed so much about who we are as a family and as individuals. But we can confidently say we could not be here doing what we are without your love, encouragement, and support. Thank you!
